Die Quelle wurde bereits 1794 in einer Doktor-Dissertation untersucht. Viele Leiden konnten offenbar durch Trinken dieses Wassers geheilt werden.
Eine 1912 durchgeführte wissenschaftliche Analyse bestätigte den Wert der Quelle als Trinkkur. Der Schwefel des Quellwassers stammt aus Gips, der im Wildflysch vorkommt.
Gips, ein wasserhaltiges Kalziumsulfat, entsteht durch Fällung aus Meerwasser durch Verdunstung. Gips ist ein sehr weiches Mineral und wird im Baugewerbe und für die Herstellung von Schewfelsäure verwendet.
Wildflysch hat nur indirekt mit eigentlichem Flysch zu tun. Er bezeichnet ein "tektonisches Mélange", d.h. bei der Gebirgsbildung zwischen zwei Decken eingepresstes Gesteinsmaterial. Der Wildflysch kann eigentlichen Flysch enthalten, aber auch ortsfremde Gesteinsblöcke.
