Distance 8.6 km
The "Goldau Bergsturzspur" on Mount Rossberg is closely linked to the fateful 2nd September 1806, when gigantic masses of rock slid down the slopes of Rossberg on a layer of clay and marl and buried 102 houses from the hamlets of Röthen and Goldau. 457 people died. Today the area of the Goldau landslide is a cantonal plant protection reserve. Thus, in the gigantic landslide area plants were given a chance to develop that cannot thrive in the usual forest landscape. This includes rare orchid species such as the lady's slipper. A hike is especially beautiful in early summer, when the orchids are in bloom.
On the way on the debris cone you will meet again and again witnesses of the landslide: huge nailfluh blocks. The first section of the hike, i.e. the stretch from the railway station to the Spitzibüel height, follows the route of the Schwyzer Höhenweg.

Author’s recommendation
Before the descent, we recommend to make an additional loop on the orchid trail, which is signposted with green boards. But be careful, the orchid trail is technically demanding.
